Looking for Homes for Baseball Players

baseballThe Ripken Experience Myrtle Beach will play host to The Victorian Kookaburras baseball team from Melbourne, Australia at its annual Ocean Breeze Tournament the week of July 10-15.

They are also seeking assistance from the local community, as it is currently searching for 19 host families to help accommodate the 38 players from three teams, one 14U and two 16U, and serve as ambassadors for Myrtle Beach during their trip. Put it on your calendar because it is a fun, family affordable thing to do in Myrtle Beach.

These teams will travel 35 hours on an airplane to visit Myrtle Beach, compete in the summer week-long tournament series and give these kids a chance to experience the American culture. Historically, this organization brings one team annually and the players stay with a host family who provides lodging and transportation for the players during their tournament week. This has become not only a memorable and long lasting friendship between the families and players/coaches/families that share their time together, but also an opportunity for us as residents of The Grand Strand to showcase our community to visitors from another part of the world.

This year they are bringing 37 players and Ripkin is looking for 5-6 more host families that would be willing to house two (2) players apiece between July 8th and July 16th. Thanks to our annual host families, they have a majority of the players covered, however they are still  looking to place a handful of players with families that are willing to open their doors. The players are 14 and 16 years old respectively and we have been providing host families for 4 years now and it has been a highly successful program.
