Sunset River Marketplace Announces Rare Collectors Event and More

Sunset River Marketplace, the eclectic art gallery in Calabash, N.C. has announced it will present a rare opportunity for collectors and art lovers to acquire art pieces by Wilmington, N.C. artist Ann McCray at greatly reduced prices. Ann McCray’s Studio Clean-Out will take place at the gallery from Monday, Oct. 22 through Saturday, Nov. 17, and will include a large selection of recent and earlier works by the artist.

Gallery owner Ginny Lassiter said, “Anyone who has ever painted large in a small studio space understands the concept and necessity of clearing out the studio from time to time. That’s what’s going on here and we are thrilled to offer this incredible selection of Ann’s naturescape abstractions for sale at Sunset River Marketplace. Ann McCray is a hugely talented artist and her Studio Clean-Out offers a special opportunity to obtain one of her pieces. I urge everyone to come and see for themselves!”

McCray’s highly textured oil paintings on gallery-wrap canvas range in size and subject matter inspired by the area’s natural beauty and landscape. Many pieces express the essence of sky, sea, and a dense lushness of trees. A bold palette with generous paint produces an energetic textured feel. These renditions are interpretations of moments in time in particular locations. Many of her oversized paintings are suited to large airy spaces where light and distance combine to emphasize a sense of freedom in the work.

Other Oct. events at Sunset River Marketplace include Anything Goes, a multi-artist show featuring works by the gallery’s Art Matters studio group from Oct. 5 to Nov. 3 (reception Saturday, Oct. 13, 4 to 6 p.m.) and the Brunswick Arts Council Fall Show and Sale from Oct. 8 to Oct. 13 (reception and awards ceremony Thursday, Oct. 11, from 5 to 7 p.m.).

Sunset River Marketplace showcases work by approximately 200 North and South Carolina artists, and houses some 10,000 square feet of oils, acrylics, watercolors, pastels, mixed media, art glass, pottery, sculpture, turned and carved wood and artisan-created jewelry. There are two onsite kilns used by students in the ongoing pottery classes offered by the gallery. A custom framing department is available.
