The Red Hat Society is celebrating their 14th birthday. As is their style – they plan to celebrate in a big way! On Tuesday, April 24, 2012, they are having a bash at Legends and in full regalia.
Legends in Concert have offered the Red Hat Ladies a special group rate for the 2:00pm matinee show with punch and cake to be served after the show. According to Priscilla Rivera, Queen Mom of the Ruby Gems (the local Red Hat Society), “It is wonderful that Legends is doing this for us. It is open to any Red Hat Lady in any chapter and their friends and family.”
The Ruby Gems is the local Red Hat Society based in Myrtle Beach and it attracts members from about 2 hours away. About half of the members are from Little River, about a quarter more from North Carolina and the remainder from Myrtle Beach. This is a very active chapter that is actually celebrating their ninth anniversary on April 12. They have a luncheon once a month and take several day trips as well. “It became my sisterhood when I became widowed, in fact ¾ of the members are widowed,” said Rivera. She told us that she considers the group a sisterhood because they can sense what each other needs. “We help to get each other out of a funk.”
In order to become a Red Hatter, you need to be at least 50. Those that can’t wait can become a pink hatter at 26. But this is not a group that just lunches and plays miniature golf. Many are involved in charities and giving of themselves. In fact Rivera’s alter ego “Cuddles” the clown is part of a clown ministry that helps out many charities such as an assisted living center, the Humane Society, and has walked to raise money for leukemia.
If you would like to attend what is sure to be a fun afternoon with dynamic women, or to learn more about the local Red Hat Society, grab your red hat and contact Priscilla Rivera, Queen Mom of the Ruby Gems at 843-455-9489 or email@example.com. Seats have been saved under her name .
