The friends of Larry Wayne Evans, Jr have planned a special fundraiser for him. Despite his age (41), healthy lifestyle of eating well and exercising almost every day, Wayne suffered a massive stroke on Friday, Dec 16 at around 11:00 am when a tiny blood clot found its way into his brain. Luckily co-workers found him almost immediately and called 911.
Doctors at Grand Strand Medical Center tried to remove the clot, but were unsuccessful, and now Wayne is currently paralyzed on the entire left side of his body.
His prognosis is hopeful IF he gets the quality, intense therapy he needs to regain that control of his left side. Since he is fairly young and healthy, experts believe he is a prime candidate for regaining a significant amount of functionality. Wayne struggles to speak clearly or even swallow properly. Already there have been signs of tremendous potential with the feeling of pain and some minor involuntary movement on his left side. Unfortunately Wayne is not covered by any insurance.
Wayne has lived in the Grand Strand for 20 years. He came down to work as a beach lifeguard and decided to make Myrtle Beach his permanent residence. He has been a very active contributing member of the local business scene and has spent years running local businesses: Club Kryptonite, followed by Tunnel Ultra Lounge, and then Zulu Lounge & Bistro.
His family is asking for help to give Wayne a second chance at living life to the fullest; at having the use of his limbs to walk again, to play with his 5 year old niece again, to work again, to do all the things we take for granted on a daily basis.
There are two ways you can help. The family has set up a page for you to directly donate to his care at www.GoFundMe.com/GetWellWayne.
There is also a Valentine’s Ball on February 11th at the Dunes Club from 6:00 pm until 11:00 pm. They are having a four-course meal with some complementary alcohol as well as a cash bar, DJ, raffles and a silent auction with some high ticket items. Tickets per couple are $165.00 and singles are $85.00. To RSVP: Heather – 843-655-6592, Michelle – 732-688-3150 or [email protected]
The potential is there. Please consider helping him reach that potential by donating to this endeavor and continue to pray for Wayne as he heads down this very, very long road to recovery.
