Myrtle Beach October Artist of the Month: Joe Winkler

The October Artist of the Month is Joe Winkler. His opening reception is Saturday, October 6, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.at Fresh Brewed Coffee House, which is located at 933 Broadway Street in heart of downtown Myrtle Beach. There is a suggested donation of $5 for admission.

Joe Winkler, originally from Baltimore, Maryland, has lived in Myrtle Beach for the majority of his life. In 2008, Joe graduated from The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina with a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering. He works in residential construction for his family’s business, Winkler’s Construction. Joe is an E.I.T. (Engineer-in-Training) and is currently pursuing his professional license.

For Joe, art has been a self-taught, life-long hobby ever since he could pick up a pencil. Having no professional training, Joe developed his talent by experimenting with various media and styles. He discovered a strong interest in portraiture and the human figure. Joe creates photorealistic drawings by utilizing graphite and charcoal with a touch of ink as well as a meticulous attention to detail.

Beginning January 2012, a local Horry/Georgetown County visual artist is featured each month as the Artist of the Month. Artist of the Month exhibitions start with an opening reception, which is held on the first Saturday of every month from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. After the opening reception, the artist’s work remains on display at Fresh Brewed Coffee House for the month.
