The Myrtle Beach Area Hospitality Association will host the 11th Annual Trio Dinner at 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 24, 2017 at the Sheraton Myrtle Beach Convention Center Hotel. Designed to support and promote the hospitality industry’s culinary arts profession, the Trio Dinner offers each student a real-world experience by creating an original dish with the guidance of an executive chef. A portion of the proceeds of the event go to MBAHA scholarship funds directed at Hospitality and Culinary education.
The Trio Dinner is the culmination of a culinary arts mentorship program which pairs a professional chef with two students, one in high school and one in college. Each trio will showcase its unique cuisine. In addition to outstanding fare, the event will include live entertainment and a silent auction benefiting hospitality educational programming.
High school students participating in the mentorship program are from the Academy for Technology and Academics, (ATA). A magnet school that receives students from throughout Horry County, ATA offers students an opportunity to sample hospitality courses including culinary arts in the middle and early high school years. The college students completing the trio are from the culinary arts program at Horry-Georgetown Technical College.
In addition to creating wonderful dishes and working with students, chefs will have the opportunity to enter one dish to be judged for the “Best Dish” and “People’s Choice” awards. Because chefs are known to be as competitive as they are creative, this allows them to show off their skills and to gain recognition.
A combination of celebrity chef judges and local American Culinary Federation judges will be at the event. To date the following chefs will be participating: Jamie Saunders, Johnny D’s Waffles & Bakery; Joe Bonaparte, International Culinary Institute of Myrtle Beach; Geoffrey Blount, International Culinary Institute of Myrtle Beach; Danny Smith, Frank’s Outback; Steve Sleeman, Frank’s Outback; Corbett Rourk, Waterscapes at Marina Inn Grande Dunes; Chad Marshall, Ocean Blue at Double Tree Resort by Hilton Myrtle Beach Oceanfront.
