Locals help wounded warriors in Myrtle Beach

Wounded Warrior projectAlmost every organization in the Myrtle Beach area is having or has had a golf tournament to raise needed funds. Why not since Myrtle Beach is considered a mecca for golf?

Fred Kane created Tee Off Fore A Cause for just that reason. In 2008, both of his sons were deployed to Iraq and had friends that were wounded or killed. Many that did return needed help to get reestablished in civilian life as well as funds for medical care. Kane thought that golf would help get their minds off their needs and also give them a well deserved diversion. Working with CPT (R) Joe Caley of the Wounded Warrior Project, and area veterans, friends, Murrells Inlet Elks Club, Bandit Golf Stores and Martin’s PGA Superstores Tee Off Fore A Cause has delivered 2 full truckloads of equipment and has a third waiting to be shipped for use in clinics at Ft. Bragg, Ft. Benning, Ft. Stewart and Camp Lejeune.

Tee Off Fore A Cause, Inc. was born out of Kane’s desire to help. He formed a 501 (C) 3 charity and enlisted retired military to help. The mission of Tee Off Fore A Cause is to raise money for wounded warriors. They have been collecting golf equipment for wounded veterans to use at Wounded Warrior Project Golf Clinics and for the Warrior Golf Camp of America.

In the past Tee Off Fore A Cause has contributed over $30,000 through tournaments here and in Mt. Pleasant, and this year’s contribution should be in the $40,000 range. Golf equipment collections have added up to in the area of some $75,000 in retail value.
