The Be Well Coach: Spring is the Time to Detox

saladWith the beautiful weather on the horizon, it is a perfect time to start detoxing our bodies and our minds from the harshness of winter and all the daily stresses we are under from our fast paced lives. Spring is the time of renewal for the planet and for our bodies. Our food choices make a huge impact when it comes to how toxic our bodies are, and we have a lot of control when it comes to getting our bodies cleaned out and feeling great.

I am a big fan of detox juice cleanses and I offer them in my business, but for those of you who are not able or who have no desire to drink massive amounts of fresh juice for a few days without eating solid food, there is a way for you to clean out your body and get rid of toxins. The key is to stay away from any processed foods and stick to raw fruits and vegetables for an extended period of time. It sounds easy but the reality is that if you have been eating poorly your body is now addicted to sugar and salt and it does take will power and a mindfulness to say ‘NO” to the junk and “YES” to the good stuff.

If you have been on an eating binge of fast food, processed foods and sweets, the first step to getting off that roller coaster is to make a commitment to start a program that supports clean eating. You will want to stock your refrigerator with healthy choices so that you are prepared on a daily basis to prepare meals that support your goals. I always have plenty of raw vegetables in my refrigerator as well as lentils in my pantry. I have other ingredients as well but the truth is, you don’t need a lot of ingredients to make a healthy meal.

Here is a great recipe that will take minutes to make and you can completely change it up by varying the protein for a complete meal.

  • ½ cabbage shredded
  • 2 zucchini shredded
  • 1 bell diced bell pepper
  • ½ cup of diced strawberries
  • ¼ cup fresh chopped parsley
  • Oil and vinegar to taste
  • Your choice of seasoning
  • Your choice of protein
