The Welcome Home Ceremony for Veterans will be on October 24th and you are invited to attend and cheer them on! This is a valuable component to the Honor Flight program and the perfect end to a wonderful day spent in Washington, D.C.
The flight is expected to arrive home around 7:30 p.m. All groups are encouraged to be in place outside the building on the apron tarmac facing the plane by 6:30 p.m. Bring a lawn chair or folding chair if you need to be seated while waiting for the plane to arrive. The Band and Honor Guard will be set up ahead of time near the tarmac.
The flight will de-plane at the newly dedicated Myrtle Beach Aviation Terminal, 1250Airdrome Avenue, MB, 29577, located behind the Market Common District. The terminal building is located adjacent to the tarmac where the plane lands and the gangplank is rolled out to receive our Veterans home. This Welcome Home Ceremony is an all outside event in a roped off area along the apron to the tarmac.
If you wish to hand out flags to the Veterans, you are welcome to do so. Banners, Welcome Home Signs, Pompoms are all always welcome and encouraged, this really shows patriotism and enthusiasm for our wonderful Veterans. School Children are most welcome; with limited space, class sizes may be restricted in numbers.
DIRECTIONS: From Back Gate – Follow Farrow Parkway to the second active stop light, ease into the left turning lane for Phillis Drive near the Piggly Wiggly. Turn left on to Phillis Drive and follow it past the VA Clinic to the next road, Airdrome Ave. Make a left on Airdrome and then a right into the General Aviation parking lot.
PARKING PASSES ARE NOT REQUIRED: Parking is available in adjacent lots near the Terminal as well as an overflow parking lot across and along Airdrome Ave. The parking lot at the Aviation Terminal is limited and reserved for Veteran families.
