Thanks to WMBF for most of this information. Volunteers are needed for the 2012 South Carolina Weapons of Mass Destruction Specialized Response Team exercise being conducted from July 9 through July 13.
Did you ever want to know how it felt to be involved in a hostage taking? An earthquake or other natural disaster? Horry county is looking for volunteers to play the role of unarmed victims and students in various scenarios. Church groups, civic groups and individuals are all encouraged to participate.
Multiple public safety agencies from around South Carolina will be coming together in Horry County to test the interoperability of specialized response teams in the event of an actual terrorist event in our state. Each day agency teams like SWAT and Hazmat will respond to emergency type scenarios like a an earthquake, a school shooting, and a chemical nuclear attack.
Chief of medical training, Matthew D. Smith, says most scenarios will run from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Smith says it should be a unique experience for volunteers.
This is a good opportunity to volunteer and help out our paramedics and other emergency responders. For more information on this event, contact Chief Smith at 843-915-5190. To become a volunteer, you can sign up by visiting www.horrycountyfirerescue.com and clicking the link at the top right of the home page.
Again thanks for WMBF for letting us know about this event.
