getting suited up
When you think of a vacation in Myrtle Beach, you naturally think of the beach, right? But the locals know there is so much more to do! So when out-of-own-friends Barb and Ken came down looking for some adventure, we went to the Myrtle Beach Zipline Adventures for a- “fun” -experience.
After signing the necessary disclaimer forms and getting suited up, I asked them how they felt (hey, my son Kyle -wasn’t going to be left out). Barbara – “excited”, Ken –“excited”, and Kyle – “excited”. Okay, so much for originality!
According to the Monster Book (a local discount coupon book), the Zipline first opened this spring and was the most anticipated attraction coming to Myrtle Beach. . This crowd certainly agreed with Monster Book!
Besides the zipline, you can also take a plunge on the free fall, where guests are dropped from 60 feet!
My group opted to do one of each. First came the zipline: Afterwards, I asked, “What did you all think?”

Zipline
Barb: “It was awesome, the view is beautiful. Being near the ocean had a tropical feel and made me feel like a seagull.”
Ken: “I would do it again: it was awesome, a great experience.”
Kyle: “It’s like being a stunt man in an action film; awesome.”
So, I guess it was awesome. Now it was time to do the free fall. How was it?
Ken:” Mind blowing! That first second is the scariest part. There is nothing under your feet and it’s a smooth ride down to earth.”
Barb: “The step off the platform was as exhilarating as jumping off a plane.” (This was from a woman who went sky diving a few months ago).

free fall
Kyle - We first have to mention that Kyle chickened out at first, but after he saw Barb smiling he said he wanted to try it. “I want to do it again to make sure I am over my fear.”
Some facts: Zipline is 50 ft. high, 600 ft. long. The free fall is 60 ft. down. The cable holds 26,000 lbs, the trolleys 19,000 lbs.and the harness, 5,000 lbs. The staff receives three days and eight long hours of intensive training to make sure everyone is safe. My crew felt that the staff was very professional and made everyone feel comfortable.
You may wonder where my reaction to the adventure was. I have always been the one who held everyone’s personal items while they went on rides at amusement parks, so I was very content to watch, take pictures and report on it all for you. It is a great experience for everyone who likes a thrill. Even for the 5 year old with the big toothless smile who got stuck for a few moments as the headway from the ocean prevented her 40 pkus pounds to get all the way across without the help of a pole from the staff. Her reaction afterward? “Daddy, can I do it again?”
