For the 34th year, the best shag dance couples in the U.S.A will converge in North Myrtle Beach this weekend and compete for National titles at the Spanish Galleon on Saturday, March 11 at 7:30 pm.
Diane DeVaughn Stokes returns as mistress of ceremony and Tom Hamrick as disc-jockey.
This is no ordinary contest since over $17,000.00 in cash and prizes will be awarded to the best couple. Another $20,000 will be awarded to several shag competitors through the Beth Mitchell Memorial Scholarship to supplement their higher education and tuitions.
The National Shag Dance Championship (NSDC) started in Myrtle Beach in 1984 and is the longest continuously running shag dance contest in the United States. Past winners of the NSDC have performed on countless TV shows and events including: Good Morning America, CBS This Morning, PGA Annual Banquets, NBA Games, Beach Music Awards, and Harvard University.
Tickets can now be purchased at the door only! Forty-five couples are competing in six divisions: Professional, Non-Professional, Masters, Seniors and Juniors I (14 and under) and Junior II (15 to 20).
